GO4 relies on trading activities for 85% of its income, That means this year we need to raise around £30,000 from donations, grants and share issues. If you would like to help us to continue our work with vulnerable unemployed people you can do so in one or more of these ways:

Make a donation – although we can’t reclaim Gift Aid every penny you donate goes towards helping vulnerable individuals gain access to work experience, training, mentoring support and employment.
Buy shares – every share purchase (£50 each ordinary share) is an investment in the lives and futures of vulnerable people. If you have significant funds to invest then talk to us about Social Investment Tax Relief – you can get 30% tax relief in the first year on your investment.
Buy food and drink at our Cafe – every purchase helps us increase our turnover, lessens our dependence on grants and helps us to become more sustainable.
Buy from the Market traders – although they are independent traders, by helping them you help us as they pay rent to us and they need to be profitable to be able to continue in business. Customers of the market also become customers of our cafe. They are also very nice people and very supportive of our mission!

Our RBS SE100 Index Ranking has gone up!

Our ranking on the RBS SE100 Index has improved! We have seen a rise in our ranking across the board with a move up one place overall (from 24 to 23), a similar rise to second place in the regional ranking (we are now ranked 2nd in the Eastern region) and a rise to 4th place in the Employment and Training category.

This is great news and shows that we are an organisation that is on the up and up! An indication of that is that today also sees the addition of a new member to our team. Peter Ling joins us as the Garden Services Manager and he will be responsible for not only managing the existing team and the services its provides but also building on that solid foundation to add new services. Eventually we plan to expand the current team so that we will have two teams so we can operate more effectively across the large geographical areas we cover, and crucially, provide more opportunities for unemployed people to receive training, work experience and eventually gain employment.

Investing in Social Enterprises: Update

The Chancellor announced in his latest budget measures to boost investment in social enterprises. More details have now been revealed.

Social investment tax relief (SITR) is now available for investments made by members of the public into not only social enterprises (CICs) but also charities and community benefit societies. Investments made after 6 April 2014 will be eligible if they are invested for at least 3 years. Tax relief of 30% will be applied, as a deduction from the investor’s income tax liability. There are also valuable capital gains tax relief available.

Investments may be configured as shares or debt (such as a simple loan) and there is a cap of £290,000 per organisation. to qualify, social enterprises must employ less than 500 employees and have gross assets under £15 million.

However, the regulations are quite complex and several conditions must be met by both the investor and the organisation. We are seeking advice from appropriate sources and will bring you more details as we get it. Alternatively, you can seek professional financial advice yourself if you are interested in taking advantage of this new opportunity.

Chancellor announces ‘groundbreaking’ 30% tax relief on social investment in Budget

The Chancellor announced in his Budget yesterday that he is introducing a 30% tax relief on investments in social investments. This will benefit social enterprises like Go4 Enterprises and is welcome news. The exact details of how it will work is to be announced on 27th March and the new relief comes into force from 6 April. What’s not clear yet is how it affects current shareholders but we hope that will become clear soon.
