Go4: more work, new opportunities
GO4 has assisted 23 young people over the last six months and in turn they have worked over 1010 hours of voluntary unpaid work, with several individuals receiving an additional 1089 hours paid work via various employers.
Three have gained employment through our support and activities with them.
These activities have included social care with a young man with cerebral palsy, painting, decorating, gardening, cleaning, retail work with GO4 Vintage, and recently working with the RAF De Lado rally team working on, and driving a rally car (see pics below and here), as well as our continuing involvement with CO1 Café, where one lad was taken on for 30 hours a week.
Regretfully CO1 Café closed in October, and GO4 along with other local organisations expressed an interest in acquiring the Holy Trinity Church for commercial and community purposes. We await a decision from the Council.
We also have a good working relationship with Colchester Borough Council, via the street warden team and they have used a number of lads on various projects around town – cleaning and preparing the old bus garage for a skate-park youth venue during the summer, street cleaning, and installing a new park bench in Priory Gardens.
We continue to undertake regular gardening tasks for Colchester Baptist Church, and for the Riverside Community. New initiatives are developing nicely.
A partnership arrangement with Colchester Leisure World has been agreed and is now being put into action.
