Go4 Interns about to start

Interns at Go4 Enterprises

Earlier this year we secured a grant of £8,000 from Colchester Borough Council. Part of this funding was match-funding for two internships. The rest of the funding is coming from Essex University. We are pleased to say that we have appointed two interns from the university who will be starting their internships in June.

One of them will be looking at Monitoring and Evaluation, helping us to provide evidence of the impact we are making. The other will be looking at Marketing and helping us to develop a marketing strategy for the future. Each internship lasts 3 months.

We will introduce them both once they start.

Second Gardening Contract Won!

We recently received some good news – we have secured a second contract with Colne Housing to provide gardening services for several of its estates. This will help us become a more sustainable social enterprise, not dependent on grants. Of course, the whole point of a community interest company like Go4 Enterprises is to reinvest surplus income from trading back into tis core activities. This is the social benefit that flows from our business.

For us, long-term this will mean we will be help more young people who need support, work experience, training and ultimately, a way into employment. It also comes at a good time for us as we are in the final stages of negotiating a new partnership between ourselves, JobCentre Plus, Colne Housing and Ann Clarke Associates. If this comes to fruition we will soon be able to start a workplace academy that will provide vocational training.

Such a workplace academy will increase significantly the number of young people we can help, supporting them as they gain recognised qualifications and become employment ready. It will also help us expand into other areas and we are already in preliminary discussions with the Department of Work and Pensions on possible new projects.

Kitchen revamp: update

New kitchen

The installation of the new kitchen units is now finished. We now have shiny new stainless steel units which are much more hygienic, easier to clean and make life much easier for our catering team. We also have a new floor with a non-slip surface.

The only things that remain to do are to redecorate the kitchen and to install a new oven range. For now we are still using our old domestic cooker. However, we do have a nice catering grill to go with it. Before we can install a new oven we need to find the money not only for the oven but also the funds to upgrade our electricity supply to the required three-phase supply.
