Go4 awarded £5,000 grant!

Colne Community Builders logo

Go4 has been awarded a grant of £5,000 from the Colne Community Builders scheme. Colne Housing is one of our partners and has supported Go4 for quite a while now. The grant is to build up our Gardening Services work by purchasing new equipment to replace our existing equipment that is not of commercial grade and is coming to the end of its working life.

The grant means that we can scale-up our gardening services over the coming months and this will assist us in supporting more unemployed people by providing work experience, volunteering and training opportunities and help them into work.

We will give more details once we have allocated the grant as to what we have spent it on and what we have been able to achieve with the grant.

Thanks again to everyone at Colne for their support and their faith in us and our hardworking gardening team.

Volunteering – did you know?

Here in England we like to think we are good at volunteering but exactly how many people do volunteer – 10%, 25%, 50% or more? Well, although we can’t be exact we can have a pretty good idea. NCVO publishes The UK Civil Society Almanac and their research shows that around 44% of the population reported that they had volunteered at least once in the previous 12 months (2012/2013) whilst some 29% of adults said they volunteered at least once a month.

The rate of volunteering varied with age and employment status, as well as being dependent on where people lived. So, in the 16-24 age group 28% said they volunteered once a month, compared to 33% in the 65-74 age group. However, in the past few years the rate has grown from just 23% (2010/2011) in the 16-24 age group. That’s a 5% increase and represents a significant number of young people who volunteer. In all, it is thought that over 15 million people volunteer in the UK at least once a month!
