Go4 has joined NCVO!

NCVO-Member-logo-2014 Go4 Enterprises is now a member of the National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO). The NCVO is a champions of volunteering and civil society, with over 10,000 members, from the largest charities to the smallest community organisations. Interestingly, the NCVO started in 1919 as the National Council of Social Services, following a legacy from Edward Vivian Birchall, who died of wounds in France during World War I.

Go4 will benefit from being part of a national organisation dedicated to the third sector and able to speak on our behalf with Government and other policy makers. It will also make it easier for our voice to be heard and to speak out for those we seek to help who may not have a voice of their own.

Vince Cable thinks Social Enterprises need no special treatment

According to Pioneers Post Vince Cable MP, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills thinks the Labour Party has got it wrong on Social Enterprises. Labour’s proposal that they would make some public sector contracts available exclusively to social enterprises, if Labour wins the upcoming general election next year is, in his view, a step too far.

His view is that the Social Value Act 2013 goes far enough in encouraging local authorities to actively involve social enterprises and local businesses in bidding for in the public sector. However, others are not sure and the Act has come under criticism from several sources for failing to do just that. Cable seems to be of the view that local councils are failing to make use of the Act’s provisions due to a fear of being accused of some sort of favouritism and thus falling foul of rules intended to prevent corruption.

Whether Labour wins the next election or not, the issue of social enterprises becoming more involved in delivering public services is sure to be a topic of discussion and perhaps competition between the parties. certainly, when one looks at the health and social care sector, there are already some big players who are social enterprises, such as Plymouth Community Healthcare CIC, who are the biggest social enterprise in the health & social care sector listed on the RBS SE100 Index.

Go4 on SE100 IndexThe RBS SE100 Index of Social Enterprises has undergone a revamp. However, there are now even more Social Enterprises listed but the good news is that Go4 is still in the top rankings!

 

As you can see (when comparing it to our initial ranking) we have slipped slightly from 8th out of 949 to 12th out of 1057, so we slipped 4 places overall but another 108 Social Enterprises joined the main index, so not bad! We managed to stay 3rd in the Eastern region despite another 5 Social Enterprises joining the index in the Eastern region. We did slip a place to 3rd in the Employment and Training Sector Index, but another 9 Social Enterprises did join the rankings, so again its good to see us holding our own.
